Argonne’s GREET Model Widely Used by Government, Industry
Argonne’s GREET model is widely recognized as the "gold standard” for evaluating and comparing the environmental impacts of transportation fuels and advanced vehicles. The Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) model is a one-of-a-kind analytical tool that measures the energy use and emissions output for a wide variety of vehicle and fuel combinations. The free software has more than 10,000 users worldwide, including government agencies, the auto and energy industries, research institutions, universities and public interest groups.

"GREET gives users the unique ability to analyze advanced vehicle technologies and new transportation fuels over an entire life cycle – from well to wheels,” said Michael Wang, GREET’s lead developer and a senior scientist in Argonne’s Center for Transportation Research. “It is a key tool used by DOE’s Biomass, Fuel Cell Technologies, Vehicle Technologies and Geothermal programs to evaluate the greenhouse gas emissions for a variety of technology portfolios. Our model is also used for regulation development by organizations such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board.”
