Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Conducts goal-oriented research on the development of electrode materials for advanced lithium-ion battery technologies and assists in providing technical guidance and program direction. Conceives, plans, develops, and implements varied research activities and projects associated with improving electrochemical energy storage systems. Understands and devises chemical and electrochemical analysis procedures and tackles materials problems related to cell/battery development and other applied electrochemical programs. Functions as principal investigator/project leader on technical projects and manages resources to meet objectives.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Comprehensive knowledge of materials science and experimental techniques in materials science.
  Considerable
Considerable knowledge electrochemistry and analytical chemistry; experimental techniques in electrochemistry and analytical chemistry; mathematics; and computer applications for data acquisition and analysis. Considerable knowledge of inorganic chemistry.
  Good
Good knowledge of chemical and electrochemical instrumentation. Good skill in devising, performing, and evaluating chemical and electrochemical experiments, use and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and technical communications.
  Other
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in materials science and/or materials engineering at the Ph.D. degree level with two to five year of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Ph.D. and 6-10 years experience/equivalent Master's Degree and 8-12 years of experience/equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years experience/equivalent
