Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  This position involves research interests in wide-field imaging, where high energy x-rays provide the opportunity for imaging centimeter-sized samples. Responsible for supporting the existing user community at beamline 32-ID, and developing new scientific applications aimed at the new Wide Field Imaging beamline that is part of the APS Upgrade. Responsible for conceiving and implementing a synchrotron radiation research program, for supporting research by users of 32-ID, and for participation in the development of the Wide Field Imaging beamline. Reports results, and develops R&D program of interest to the goals of the X-ray Science Division. Within 5 years of initial appointment, must develop R&D program in imaging and demonstrate the ability to work with and build the user community.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Considerable
Skill in experimental physics to develop advanced instrumentation and scientific applications for full field x-ray imaging and tomography; Knowledge of image analysis and image data extraction. Skills in written and oral communications.
  Good
Skills in understanding abstract concepts and synthesizing results within the current experimental and theoretical framework. Broad understanding of x-ray physics and applications.
  Other
This level of scientific knowledge and sophistication normally associated with a Ph.D. in applied physics, materials science, advanced imaging or related disciplines.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Ph.D. and 0-1 year experience/equivalent Master's Degree and 2-3 years of experience/equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 6-8 years experience/equivalent
