Basic Purpose |
| |
Develops high-speed and high-resolution phase-contrast imaging at the Advanced Photon Source. Responsible for conceiving, planning and implementing synchrotron radiation research including, novel instrumentation and techniques, and operating synchrotron equipment in support of the high-resolution transmission x-ray microscope and phase contrast imaging programs. Responsible for supporting the operation of beamline 32-ID including experiments by users, beamline commissioning, maintenance, and upgrade activities. |

Knowledge, Skills and Experience |

Considerable
Knowledge of the properties of synchrotron radiation in order to develop suitable instrumentation (x-ray optics, detectors, etc.) and state-of-the-art experimental techniques. Knowledge in the development of x-ray optics, and in the design and execution of x-ray imaging experiments. Skill in experimental physics to develop advanced instrumentation and scientific applications for the x-ray transmission microscopy program and phase contrast imaging program; knowledge of x-ray microscopy, x-ray micro and nano tomography, image reconstruction and analysis. |

Skill in designing and implementing state-of-the-art instrumentation; understanding abstract concepts, and synthesizing results within the current experimental and theoretical framework. Knowledge of general experimental practices currently employed with synchrotron radiation. Good written and oral communication skills. |

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's and 8+ years, Master's and 5+ years or Doctorate and 4+ years of experience/equivalent. |
