Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  This position includes responsibility for planning and implementing synchrotron radiation research at beam line 1-ID, in support of high-energy x-ray scattering and imaging activities in the sector. This includes designing, constructing, and operating highly specialized beam line and end station equipment, including focusing optics, detectors and in-situ sample environments. The successful candidate will be expected to implement scientific methods, advanced instrumentation, and/or x-ray analysis algorithms. The candidate will also be expected to develop a research program focused on physical science or engineering applications, and for reporting relevant results in an appropriate form. Collaborative research with internal and external research scientists is encouraged.

Skill in experimental physics to develop scientific applications and advanced instrumentation for high-energy x-ray microbeam scattering and full-field imaging under a variety of in-situ environments; skill in understanding abstract concepts and synthesizing results within the current experimental and theoretical framework; considerable skill in data analysis algorithms and methods; skill in written and oral communications.

Knowledge of x-ray diffraction, scattering and imaging methods, crystallography, x-ray physics and optics, synchrotron radiation and detectors.

This level of scientific knowledge and sophistication required is normally associated with a Ph.D. in applied physics, materials science, or related disciplines.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 3+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 0 years or their equivalents
