Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Responsible for planning and implementing synchrotron radiation research, and for designing, constructing, and operating synchrotron equipment in support of time-resolved research in chemical and physical sciences. Develops scientific applications and advanced instrumentation for x-ray time-resolved research in chemical and physical sciences. Responsible for reporting relevant results in an appropriate form. This position will support the laser pump/x-ray probe facility at Sector 11. Within 5 years of initial appointment, must develop all or part of R&D program of interest to goals of the Division.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Considerable
Knowledge and experience in using and operating a user-orientated synchrotron radiation beamline. Experimental skills to develop scientific applications and advanced instrumentation for ultrafast time-resolved x-ray scattering and spectroscopy; skill in understanding abstract concepts and synthesizing results within the current experimental and theoretical framework; skill in advanced data analysis algorithms and methods; skill in written and oral communications.

Knowledge of beamline components in terms of design, manufacture, operation and maintenance; knowledge of synchrotron radiation, x-ray optics, detectors, and precision instrumentation.

This level of scientific knowledge and sophistication required is normally associated with a Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, materials science, or related disciplines.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 3+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 0 years or their equivalents
