Basic Purpose |
| |
Provides design, analysis, and development effort to support power supplies and power electronic devices of moderate size and complexity for the Advanced Photon Source. Works as a member of a team of engineers and technicians responsible for the development, maintenance, and improvement of power supplies for the APS accelerators, and as a member of a larger team of engineers and scientists responsible for the operation and development of particle accelerator technology for high-brightness synchrotron light sources |

Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
| |
Considerable Considerable knowledge and understanding of power conversion theories and principles, including switching mode and phase controlled technologies. Considerable knowledge of circuit and system modeling and simulation. Considerable knowledge and experience of design, construction, and testing of power supplies with moderate complexity and size up to 10`s of killowatts. Familiar with modeling and simulation tools such as PSpice and Matlab. |

Good Good knowledge of circuit topologies used in power supplies. Good knowledge of electromagnetics and its applications in power electronics. Good knowledge and understanding of control theory used in power electronics. Good knowledge of semiconductor devices. Good judgment and insight to make sound technical decisions leading to successful designs. Good experience with digital control circuits and field-programmable gate array (FPGA) applications. Good knowledge of pulsed and steady-state high current and/or high voltage power supply systems is a plus.
