Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Guides, coordinates, and initiates state-of-the-art research related to x-ray interface science and time-resolved science in the X-ray Science Division. Develops research themes directed toward the Basic Energy Sciences portfolio. Initiates and supports research in collaboration with academic and industrial partners. Ensures high quality and productivity of x-ray research in the Division. Facilitates strong general user programs at the APS beamlines. Supervises the conception, planning, and implementation of synchrotron based equipment, and guides other scientists in these activities.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Knowledge, skills, and experience in managing complex, technical organizations and in DOE policy and procedures as it applies to division administration within a national laboratory. This position requires an outstanding international reputation in x-ray science. Skill in written and oral communications. Skill in managing a diverse group of PhD scientists and demonstration of leadership abilities.

This level of knowledge and skill is achieved and demonstrated through the attainment of a PhD in Physics, or equivalent, plus 10 or more years of experience in science administration.
