Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  The Group Leader for the Detector Group at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory coordinates the group`s activities in detector development, and in operation of the Detector Pool. The group leader is responsible for project prioritization, collaborative development projects, and safety, staff and budget, all in support of APS beamlines and the research mission of the X-ray Science Division. Experience in detector physics and electronics is required, as is familiarity with x-ray science experiments. In addition to the main responsibility of leading the group, the group leader should contribute to the technical development of new x-ray detectors of interest to the goals of the Division.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Knowledge of x-ray detector physics and electronics. Knowledge of x-ray science experiments. Leadership of a technical team. Ability to work well in a diverse team environment.
  Considerable
Experience in leading detector development projects. Experience in team budget oversight. Experience in mentorship and personnel evaluation. Communications skills including proposing group directions and describing priorities, presenting detector physics concepts and progress on defined projects. Ability to drive individual projects to the success and the desire to work in a challenging professional environment.
  Other
Experience with synchrotron radiation beamlines.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 7+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 6+ years or their equivalents
