Job Description
  Basic Purpose
This position involves research, development and delivery of nano fabricated hard x-ray diffractive optics including primarily zone plates for high resolution (<20 nm), high energy (>10 keV) x-ray focusing, but also other nanostructures for beam shaping and conditioning. The scientist will 1) Play a major role in establishing a leading hard x-ray zone plate program at the Advanced Photon Source in collaboration with scientists at relevant groups both within and outside of Argonne National Laboratory; 2) Investigate and develop new approaches to achieve high efficiency with hard x-rays, possibly including high aspect ratio nanofabrication and/or alignment of multiple zone plates; and 3) Deliver zone plates to meet the need of the APS Upgrade project and future APS nano- and micro-probes. The work also includes contribution to the overall efforts of the optics group to support APS beamlines and users. Within 5 years of initial appointment, must develop all or part of R&D program of interest to goals of the Division.
