Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Provide on-going technical oversight of accelerator systems activities related to the Advanced Photon Source (APS) Upgrade project, in particular regarding integration of new accelerator components with existing accelerator hardware and software systems and their compatibility with APS storage ring operational requirements. Perform APS storage ring lattice optimizations as needed and test correspondence between models and lattices implemented into the storage ring. Perform on-going simulation of electron beam dynamics and refine tolerances for the short-pulse x-ray system (SPX). Provide on-going technical advice to the APS Upgrade Associate Project Manager for Accelerator Systems and to a line manager in the Accelerator Systems Division of the APS regarding capabilities and limitations of new accelerator systems and insertion devices developed for the APS Upgrade. Review and supervise preparation of APS Upgrade design reports, physics requirements documents, and other technical documents for the APS Upgrade.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Comprehensive expertise in accelerator modeling and simulation is required, as is extensive knowledge of accelerator-based synchrotron light sources and radiation producing devices.
  Considerable
This position requires considerable experience in the design, commissioning, and operation of accelerators.
  Good
Demonstrated ability to propose and lead accelerator R&D geared toward light source improvements. Good skills in writing scientific papers and technical reports. Knowledge of LaTeX.
  Other
Experience with working in a large project environment and with management of technical personnel.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 7+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 6+ years or their equivalents
