Job Description
  Basic Purpose

Provide IT leadership and support of the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCSER). This is a ground breaking effort between 14 organizations to create, develop and take to market new batteries with five times greater energy density, five times cheaper, within five years.

Argonne coordinates the research and development from Lawrence Berkeley, Pacific Northwest, Sandia and SLAC National Accelerator as well as students and researchers at Northwestern University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois and the University of Michigan. Our partners include the Chicago-based Clean Energy Trust, a nonprofit dedicated to accelerating the development of clean-energy businesses in the Midwest, to usher technology from Argonne to the marketplace with the help of Dow Chemical Co., Applied Materials Inc. and Johnson Controls Inc.

This role will:

  • Develop, plan, and execute the business informatics and data management tools (Electronic Laboratory Notebooks and then the LIMS- Laboratory Information Management System) for the collection, curation and analysis of data generated by JCSER,
  • Serve as a technical resource for the design and implementation of IT solutions, video conferencing and cyber security related programs that meet contract and regulatory requirements, and
  • Work closely with the partners to establish and implement IT services, policies and procedures.

  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
To be considered we are looking for:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data and document management and analysis,
  • Demonstrated success in leading specification and implementation of significant systems and software in a scientific or technical environment,
  • Skills in the architecture, development and implementation of Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN) software much like; Kalabie ELN, Open ELN, E-notebook, SIMATIC IT, e-CAT or E-WorkBook.
  • Ability to interface with senior management, research, engineering and IT personnel to assist in processes development, deriving business requirements and developing appropriate solutions,
  • Considerable experience with virtual collaborator frameworks, including the use of video conferencing and collaboration suites such as Confluence and Microsoft Sharepoint,
  • Public speaking and presentation skills,
  • Good knowledge of DOE Cyber Security requirements including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) risk based framework.
  • A Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years work experience is required, a graduate degree is preferred..
