Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Independently operate the ATLAS particle accelerator. Supervise one or more technicians in work at ATLAS. Contribute to the maintenance and upgrade of the facility. Act as Chief Shift Operator as scheduled.
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Good skills in oral communication with colleagues, users and others. Good knowledge of the practical operation of the ATLAS heavy-ion accelerator. Good skill in organizing own work and keeping necessary records.
Some knowledge of the parts of the physics and technology of cryogenic linear accelerators, such as beam behavior, radio frequency systems, magnets, vacuum systems, and mechanical systems. Some skills in understanding scientific and engineering concepts and in the technologies used at the accelerator. Some knowledge and skills in most of the diverse technologies at the ATLAS facility including radio frequency, analog and digital electronics, ion beam optics, vacuum systems, ion sources, magnetics, computers and control systems.
A BA degree in physics is preferred. This level of knowledge and skills is typically acquired by obtaining a minimum of an Associate degree in physics and 7-9 years of experience or the equivalent. After initial training period shift work and weekends will be required. A regular schedule will be established for the employee. Requires approximately 1 year for an employee to perform all aspects of the job satisfactorily.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Associate's Degree and 5+ years of related work experience or equivalent
