Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Provide technical leadership for the mirrors, multilayers optics and metrology section of the Optics Group (OPT) at the X-ray Science Division (XSD). Develop and execute a leading R&D program in thin film based optics for x-ray applications. Oversee R&D activities and operation of the Section`s laboratories with the goal to deliver the highest quality optics and related services to the APS beamlines and users. Responsible for the development, the upgrade and the safe operation of the thin film deposition laboratories. Work with OPT group leader and XSD management to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the Section.
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Knowledge and experience in thin film science and technologies to develop high-quality and innovative thin-film hard x-ray optics. Knowledge of x-ray characterization and metrology techniques as applied to thin film optics. Communication skills including preparing technical papers to the professional community, and oral presentation skill. Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team in a demanding R&D environment. Ability to drive individual projects to the success and the desire to work in a challenging professional environment.
Experience in optical systems design. Programming skills. Experience with thin film characterization such as reflectometry and laboratory scanning probe microscopy.
Knowledge in optical metrology, nanofabrication methods such as e-beam lithography and reative ion etching and ion beam figuring.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 7+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 6+ years or their equivalents
