Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Individual designs, develops, conducts and/or coordinates nuclear fuel cycle and reactor technology-related experiments. Develops techniques, operates facilities, and executes experiments with particular emphasis on research apparatus with computer control and data acquisition systems. Designs electrical equipment, controls, components, systems, and products. Assesses capabilities of existing electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks for R&D projects focused on discovering new knowledge about products and processes; applies that knowledge to create new and improved products and processes. Provides systems analysis of electronic systems and subsystems. Develops and applies inspection and test procedures for components and systems. Conducts experimental tests on equipment and evaluates results. Requires capability in electrical engineering and familiarity with wiring electronics and power systems. This work is carried out with limited guidance from the Section Manager and/or Principal Investigators and involves frequent contact with customers and staff across the laboratory.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Knowledge in Laboratory/shop practices and procedures. Knowledge of electrical engineering, electronics and wiring.
  Considerable
Knowledge in experimental tools and techniques; Materials engineering and fabrication; ESH requirements. Skills required in field engineering and troubleshooting; manual dexterity; implementing engineering and design concepts; and maintaining ANL and outside relationships. Skills required in developing experimental approaches and techniques; developing engineering and design concepts; planning and scheduling project/program activities.
  Good
Knowledge in heat transfer and fluid flow systems.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 3+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 0 years or their equivalents
