Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Provides secretarial and administrative support to the directorate`s Deputy Associate Laboratory Director and Chief Application Scientist. Assures the smooth flow of incoming and outgoing communications. Arranges and provides support at high-level meetings, conferences, and workshops. Works with minimum supervision, setting own priorities, and meets all deadlines with accuracy and completeness. As required, interacts directly with sponsors, Lab management and high-level university collaborators. Position requires the exercise of independent judgment and discretion.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Comprehensive knowledge of office administration, secretarial science, English grammar and usage. Comprehensive knowledge of the Argonne organization, policy and procedures and a good network of contacts within the Laboratory. Comprehensive organizational skills, initiative, ingenuity, and creativity and the ability to solve problems independently. Is comfortable working in a dynamic, changing environment with multiple simultaneous demands.
  Considerable
Considerable knowledge of ANL business systems. Considerable knowledge and skill in filtering e-mail; bringing priority items to the attention of the Deputy ALD or appropriate staff member. Considerable skill in arranging and determining requirements for meetings, conferences, and workshops. Considerable ability to gather data, consider alternatives and weigh implications and appropriateness of actions. Considerable familiarity with desktop productivity tools (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Macintosh experience is desirable. Considerable skill in administrative problem solving and prioritizing work and accomplishing multiple objectives. Considerable oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with internal and external contacts at varying levels of authority to achieve established goals.
  Good
Good knowledge of document preparation for the WWW, including web searching.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Associate's Degree with 8+ years of related work experience, High School Diploma and 10+ years of related work experience or their equivalents
