Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Participate in the ongoing upgrades of beamlines 20-ID and 9-BM, and support operations of the upgraded facilities. Beamline 20-ID is being moved to 25-ID and will be upgraded to have two branch lines using a canted undulator source. Supported techniques include XAFS, K-B mirror based mapping and micro-XAFS, x-ray emission spectroscopy, and non-resonant inelastic x-ray spectroscopy (x-ray Raman). 9-BM is being upgraded to support quick-XAFS capabilities as an addition to its extensive facilities for in-situ catalyst experiments using XAFS. In addition to supporting the upgrades and operations, the candidate will be expected to develop a research program supporting the goals of the division utilizing the expanded capabilities. Experience is required in the application and instrumentation of one or more of the spectroscopic techniques listed above.
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Skill in the application of x-ray spectroscopy to problems in materials, chemistry and environmental science.
Knowledge of general experimental instrumentation and practices currently employed at x-ray synchrotron radiation facilities. Skill in understanding abstract concepts and synthesizing results within the current experimental and theoretical framework. Skill in written and oral communication.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 5+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 4+ years or their equivalents
