Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Provides technical expertise in the areas of nuclear and radiochemistry to a range of research and development programs focused on developing nuclear safeguards technologies for used nuclear fuel processing systems. This position will be carried out primarily in a team environment. Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance are required for this position.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Comprehensive experience in laboratory experimentation.
  Considerable
Considerable knowledge of actinide chemistry in aqueous and nonaqueous (including molten salt) systems is essential, particularly in the context of radiochemistry. Considerable knowledge of and experience in spectroscopic methods for actinide and fission product monitoring are essential. Considerable laboratory experience in safe handling of radioactive materials in hoods, gloveboxes, and shielded cells at room temperature, as well as at elevated temperatures.
  Good
Good knowledge of and experience in general analytical methods development, including measurement instrument development, which includes interfacing measurement methods with hoods, gloveboxes, and shielded cells, are essential. Good knowledge of and experience in the field of nuclear safeguards as applied and practiced in the U.S. Department of Energy`s Office of Nuclear Energy and National Nuclear Security Agency, as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency. Good experience in the development and testing of process monitoring equipment for nuclear facilities. Good oral and written communication skills.

This level of knowledge and skill is typically achieved through a combination of studies in chemistry at the Ph.D. degree level and 0-1 year of experience in separation science and radiochemistry. Because of the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance are required for this position.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 3+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 0 years or their equivalents
