Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Leads research program and beamline instrumentation development for liquid surface scattering (LSS) experiments at the Advanced Photon Source (APS). Develops the fixed-energy LSS beamline at 28-ID as part of the APS Upgrade Project in addition to an instrument to be located at a tunable-energy x-ray beamline. Development includes methodologies for data collection and advanced instrumentation in collaboration with other APS staff. Grows the user community in LSS and, subsequent to development, supports, with the assistance of a second beamline scientist, LSS research activities at 28-ID.
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Consistently demonstrated high level of knowledge of x-ray diffraction theory, data analysis, and structural modeling techniques for structural characterization of liquid surfaces. Experience in planning and leading a R&D program in synchrotron x-ray research of liquid surfaces. Training in Materials Science characterization techniques and development of physical models for these materials from these observations.
Knowledge of x-ray optics, x-ray detection and instrument control hardware and software. Skill in oral and written communication of scientific results and experimental plans. Ability to use both computer hardware and software for instrument control and data acquisition.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 5+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 4+ years or their equivalents
RD5 - Bachelor's Degree and 15+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 12+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 10+ years or equivalent. RD4 - Bachelor's and 12+ years work experience, Master's and 7+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 6+ years work experience or equivalent.
