Job Description
  Basic Purpose
The proposed research will develop new approaches to mixed-integer nonlinear optimization with simulation constraints. A key challenge in this area is the presence of both relaxable and unrelaxable integer variables. We will design new classes of algorithms tailored to these types of variables. The new methods will be implemented by building on our existing solvers in TAO and MINOTAUR, combining advances in surrogate modeling for derivative-free optimization with advanced mixed-integer techniques.

  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Considerable
Considerable knowledge in optimization, numerical analysis, or scientific computing. Considerable knowledge either in mixed-integer optimization or derivative-free optimization.
  Good
Good collaborative skills, including the ability to work well with other divisions, laboratories, and universities. Good communication skills. Good programming skills.
  Some
Some experience with derivative-free optimization techniques or mixed-integer optimization to complement the considerable knowledge in one of these areas. Some experience in convex analysis. Some exposure to scientific computing.
  Other
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science or a related discipline.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Years Since Ph.D. -- 0-1, 1-2, 2-3
