Job Description
  Basic Purpose
Responsible for developing an automated system for scanning macromolecular crystallization plates/microfluidic chips through exploring room temperature data collection and analysis. This work will cover a wide variety of areas for possible experimentation from instrumentation to crystallographic methods development. This includes sample delivery systems, developing, refining and applying existing mini-beam (5-, 10-, and 20-micron beams) tools, e.g. helical/vector data collection and diffraction rastering, sample visualization, exploring radiation damage with a fast large format detector (Pilatus3 6M), data handling and structure solution.
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Knowledge of experimental practices in the field of macromolecular crystallography. Key areas of interest include experimental aspects of data analysis, radiation damage, and structure solution. Considerable skill with handling protein crystallographic samples and experience with instrumentation on macromolecular beamlines. Skill in designing and implementing instrumentation, understanding abstract concepts, conceiving experiments, and synthesizing results within the current experimental and theoretical framework.
This level of scientific sophistication is normally associated with a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or crystallography. Strong interest in macromolecular crystallography. Synchrotron or instrumentation experience is an added preference.
