Argonne’s Wind Power Technology and Analysis Program supports the Department of Energy’s Wind and Water Power Program in its mission to enable rapid expansion of clean, affordable, reliable, and domestic wind power to promote national security, economic vitality, and environmental quality.  Argonne’s wind power research focuses on the following activities:

  • Addressing wind turbine drivetrain reliability issues
  • Developing advanced superconducting drivetrain designs
  • Improving statistical wind power forecasting methods
  • Grid systems operations with large penetrations of variable resources
  • Wind energy development in critical wildlife habitats
  • GIS-based visual impact risk analysis and mitigation identification system
  • Workforce development
